Quote:⚠ READ BEFORE INSTALLING – RISK OF BRICK
- Only install on a CFW-compatible PS3. Check your console with MinVerChk first: the minimum version must be 3.56 or lower (3.60 or higher = stop). Installing CFW on a non-compatible console WILL brick it.
- CECH-30xx Slims and all Super Slims (CECH-40xx / 42xx) cannot run CFW. Late CECH-25xx Slims often fail too. Use PS3HEN on official/HFW firmware instead.
- If you are on official firmware, you must first prepare the console (HFW + PS3Xploit Flash Writer) before a CFW PUP can be installed. Follow our install guide.
- Never turn off the PS3 or unplug the USB drive during an install.
- Always verify the MD5 hash after downloading. A corrupt CFW file can brick your console.
▌ Which Version Do I Need?
- Standard – The normal build. Pick this if your PS3 is fully working.
- noBD – Blu-ray drive disabled. For consoles with a dead or removed disc drive.
- noBT – Bluetooth disabled. For consoles with a faulty Bluetooth / Wi-Fi board.
- noBD + noBT – Both the Blu-ray drive and Bluetooth disabled.
- OC (Overclock) – Overclocked GPU for better performance. Runs hotter – only use it with good cooling and fresh thermal paste. Use at your own risk.
- BETA – Pre-release test builds. Use the final release unless you have a specific reason not to.
▌ Installation Guide – Updating an Existing CFW
Quote:⚠ These steps only work if your PS3 is already running custom firmware (EvilNat or another CFW, CEX build).
- Format a USB drive as FAT32.
- On the drive, create a folder named PS3, and inside it a folder named UPDATE (all caps).
- Download the CFW you need and rename the file to exactly PS3UPDAT.PUP.
- Final path should be: USB:\PS3\UPDATE\PS3UPDAT.PUP
- Plug the USB into the PS3 (the right-most port on Fat models), then go to Settings → System Update → Update via Storage Media.
- Or boot into Recovery Mode: with the PS3 fully off, hold Power until you hear a double beep, connect the controller with a USB cable, press PS, and choose 6. System Update.
⚠ Do NOT choose 5. Restore PS3 System – that option formats the hard drive. Option 6 is the only menu item you want here.
